Session 16 - End of Life Care
Introduction
At the end of their lives, most people with Alzheimer's disease are being cared for in a care home. The care required is extensive and is very difficult for family members to manage on their own.
In this session we’ll review in more depth what to expect during end stage dementia. You will also learn how to interact with and provide comfort to the person who is near the end of his or her life.
Learning Objectives
When you have completed this session, you will be able to:
- Define palliative care.
- Understand the changes and what to expect during the last days of life.
- Identify events preceding active dying in late stage dementia.
- Identify cues for pain and discomfort and how to provide comfort for the person with dementia.
Work through the various parts of the session at your leisure. Move from one part to another at your own pace and in the order that makes sense to you, based on your own needs and interests.
Take time to visit the Discussion Forums, where you can post, in a common area, messages to all other community members. It’s a place for you to interact with others and to discuss the topics and ideas introduced throughout this session.
At any time, you may scroll to the Search bar at the top of the page and type a specific question or topic.
