At our social meeting yesterday, arranged by one of our members for caregivers and spouses, something twigged my memory. Jewellery !. My spouse lost a really good ring that meant so much to him. Realizing that his wedding band would probably be next, I took him shopping to the local mall where we bought a $ 20 'wedding band' with a stone. He wanted me to hold on to his good ring, which I now have on my finger with my wedding rings. Please think about replacing good rings, watches or necklaces with ones that can be lost or misplaced without causing any grief to your spouse or family. For necklaces it took a while to plant the idea that I would keep it safe for him, taking it off when he got a hair cut etc.. turned out to be a nuisance for him so he choose to not put them back on. The two rings, as he lost weight, he actually put in a jewellery store to be re sized. When I saw the tag I phoned and got the rings back before the $ 300 work was started. Then he lost one ring and we replaced the wedding band very quickly. Something to think about.

Jewellery was never an issue for us. Al never wore any. but I think your suggestion of replacing valuable pieces with something else is a good idea. Hearing aids were our issue. Over 6 years 2 pairs were lost. We just happen to be lucky that he was eligible for replacement after 5 years which coincided. All of the worry ended though when I purchased "Ear Gear" - availble online out of British Columbia. For less than $35 these little "socks" provide security and prevent a lot of anxiety. The pair I ordered clip onto the back of his shirts. You can also get them to attach to glasses. If loss of hearing aids is a concern (especially in winter with scraves and touques I would recommend checking them out. Alzwife

I went to Wal-Mart and bought a $10 ring to replace my wife's wedding rings that I was taking out for an updated insurance "appraisal" - wink, wink. Well one got lost so I bought another one for $10. It too disappeared. I had a plastic plant in her room before she passed away and I put it out on the deck this summer. When I brought it in the house recently I noticed it could use a cleaning and re-arranging. I found one of the rings in the bottom and since my wife has been gone 16 months it brought personal comfort to me.
